We are thrilled that SHAKE Climate Change has been selected as a finalist for the Accelerator of the Year at this year's UKBAA Angel Investor Awards!
SHAKE Climate Change was created to solve big challenges in climate change with a bold vision to ‘Make Agriculture Part of The Solution". It is well-recognised that solutions are needed to feed the growing global population in a more sustainable way. While UK science is world-leading, many bright ideas are never realised because of challenges navigating the complex agricultural sector and a lack of access to crucial seed funding.
This is where SHAKE comes in – we identify, build and maintain a community of entrepreneurs and innovators committed to making agriculture part of the climate solution.
We aim to build a vibrant programme to attract applicants from diverse disciplines, sectors and backgrounds and employ various strategies to build up the investment readiness of the entrepreneurs, including:
- Mentorship to help refine business models, ensure market readiness, and navigate the investment landscape.
- Extensive pitch training with input from investment experts and specialist advisors with scientific knowledge in the sector in addition to the mentoring.
- Early pre-seed funding based on our approach to “support fewer, better”; We ensure appropriate due diligence is undertaken and that ventures have proper legal support in place with robust structures that will be attractive to investors. As evidenced by our results, our funding provides opportunities for match funding and security for follow on funders.
- Ongoing backing; additional funded mentoring and support for 12 months to provide structure and advice to help entrepreneurs get to that crucial next funding.
- Networking and access to additional investors; Leveraging our combined personal and institutional links with funders, VCs and other sources of finance, including alumni, Angel networks and sector specific investment funds to help introduce entrepreneurs to the most relevant funding at the right time.
